Garland Hughes

Bringing 20 years if commercial real estate development and brokerage experience, Garland joined the Providence Group in late 2016, after working for MPV Properties for twelve years and Crosland Retail for eight years. Garland received his MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill and his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the College of Charleston. In 1995, after completing Aon Specialty Risk Service’s management training program with the Mergers and Acquisitions group. Garland returned to the Carolinas to pursue his interests in commercial real estate with Crosland, Inc.’s retail division in 1996 where he was responsible for managing anchor leasing, leading a team of leasing associates and pursuing new development opportunities.

Garland’s experience is concentrated in the retail sector with tenant representation, anchor leasing and development portfolios ranging from build-to-suit transactions, neighborhood shopping centers, regional shopping centers and mixed-use developments across the Southeastern United States. Garland primarily represents national big box, junior anchors and restaurants including Lowes Home Improvement, Main Event Entertainment, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Chuy’s Mexican Food, Old Chicago Pizza & Tap Room, Chuck E. Cheese’s, among others. Garland’s transaction list includes retailers such as Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Lowes Foods, CVS/pharmacy, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Best Buy, Circuit City, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Linens-n-Things, Ross Dress for Less, Old Navy, Pier 1 Imports, World Market, PetSmart, Office Max, Talbots, Victoria’s Secret and Ann Taylor, along with developments such as StoneCrest at Piper Glen, Birkdale Village, The Shops at Greenridge and Poyner Place.
